Talk on The New Zealand Women in Leadership Programme

20 August 2009, The New Zealand Women in Leadership Programme, Sarah Leberman, Department of Management

The session will cover the rationale for setting up the New Zealand Women in Leadership (NZWIL) course, development, design, delivery and participant feedback from the last two years. The NZWIL course is supported by the NZVCC and at this stage has commitment from all Universities through until 2011 inclusive. Academic and general staff alumni from the course will share some of their experiences during the session.

Insights from those who have particpated in the programme was interesting:

  • leadership is about influence – asking questions, putting ideas forward
  • anyone can be a leader (something i have always advocated – should include the quote I found on this)
  • “enhancement” of your career rather than going up a ladder (this really reasonated with me!)
  • “followership”
  • issue of being too humble
  • being a “person of influence” (Eleanor Ramsey??)
